Remix Reading will be officially launching on the 1st March. With a press conference, an art exhibition and lots of live music and film, it should be a great demonstration of the strength of the Reading arts community, and their desire to create, share and remix!

Venue: South Street arts centre, Reading, RG1 4QU. Map

Times: Turn up at 5pm for the press conference, 5.30pm for the soundcheck & warmup, and 7pm for the main event.

Price: We'll be charging £2 on the door, except for VIPs and those playing in the main auditorium. The venue is limited to 300 people, with 220 in the main auditorium at any one time, so get there early to avoid disappointment!

Press conference

This will include:

  • A talk from Tom (Project Lead) introducing the project, including Creative Commons and our motivation
  • David Berry, managing director of Loca Records and an artist himself, known as Meme, (http://locarecords.com) will explain how Creative Commons has helped them build a better record label.

  • A talk from Roland Chadwick about how Remix Reading and Creative Commons can help independent musicians
  • A talk from Christian Ahlert, co-founder of iCreative Commons UK, about the new Creative Commons England & Wales licenses

  • Show short videos explaining Creative Commons
  • Time for questions

Tom and Ed are coordinating the conference. We will need to do the following:

  • Set-up table, chairs and projector linked to laptop
  • Contact every journalist with the PR we can find and follow up any responses, and the main local press
    • Contacts are being kept on the Press page... please add details of any journalists who might be interested

Jam session

In the rehearsal room we are planning on having musicians jamming acoustically when there is no other events.

On the night we will have an area in the reheasal room where people can draw & paint.

Laptop will be brought along by demonstrator. Required please: table, chair (preferably two chairs), mains power socket (preferably nearby). Internet access would be really good! Event: A laptop with Suse Linux running. Dual booting with Windows XP. Discussion with a linux new user. Open Office suite on Linux and Windows. Firefox web browser on Linux and Windows. Thunderbird Email/News reader on Linux and Windows.
